Henny Respiratory
Chickens and other birds have unique breathing cycle that differs from mammals. It is called a flow through system which means they inhale like us but don’t exhale like we would. The vet will put their hand on the chicken’s chest and count the number of times the chicken chest rises, one with each inhale. Ms. H Pennys chest rose on average 3 times every 10 seconds, how many breaths per minute is this?
Listen up.
Pulse is how fast an animal’s heart beats. It is sometimes known as the heart rate. To take the pulse on a chicken, vets need to listen to or feel for the pulse. Count the number of beats you hear over 15 seconds and multiply by 4.
