This activity teaches that the tool shapes the work. By forcing the student to put the brush down halfway through, the card makes them experience how scissors think differently from a brush. Scissors produce hard edges, geometric shapes, and decisive marks. The painted paper holds the colour. The cutting becomes the drawing. Students often want to cut carefully toward a planned image. Push them to cut intuitively first, then arrange. The constraint that the brush cannot return is the curriculum content. Limitation is what produces the new method.
