Sound translation

This activity teaches ekphrasis in reverse. The student listens to music that came from a painting and makes a new picture from the music. Three artworks exist in sequence: a painting, a piece of music, and the student’s drawing. Each is a translation of the one before it. Some students will want to draw the witch’s hut they hear in the music. Some will draw something abstract. Both are right. The task is not accuracy. The task is to follow the music with the hand and see what appears.
