I operate on pianos, what do you do?

As we continue on our quest to find careers that are out of the ordinary, we came across this very simple short film about Marc Manceaux. A man who fixes and restores pianos for a living in the oldest piano shop in Paris, you get the feeling from his commentary that this is a way of life for him, a passion rather than just a nine to five job.

“..it’s about finding a part so that a historic piano can sing again.”

As well as introducing students to another career there is so much else you could discuss from this film.  There is the extended metaphor of the broken pianos as organ donors and the idea that he is looking for an instrument that can “speak French”.  The simplicity of the film and the effect this has on the overall impression we get of Marc Manceaux and his shop also makes interesting food for thought.
