IDEO and Design in the Classroom

IDEO and Design in the Classroom

31.10.2012.

I’m not sure if you know of IDEO.  They are my personal heroes.  If I could work anywhere in the world this place would be it. “IDEO (pronounced “eye-dee-oh”) is an award-winning global design firm that takes a human-centreed, design-based approach to helping organisations in the public and private sectors innovate and grow.We identify new ways to serve and support people by uncovering latent needs, behaviours, and desires.”

They are legends and I love them more everyday because they are passionate about education.  If you are at all interested in what they think or do then like their facebook page immediately and stay in touch with their updates that way.

The firm’s work with Ormondale Elementary School, in Portola Valley, California, helped pioneer a special “investigative-learning” curriculum that inspires students to be seekers of knowledge.Metropolis spoke to Sandy Speicher, who heads the Design for Learning efforts at IDEO. Her insights provide powerful lessons for architects and designers creating the schools of tomorrow.

There 10 tips for the 21st Classroom include:

  1. Teacher’s are designers – let them create.
  2. Pull, Don’t Push.
  3. Change the discourse.

See what I mean?  Sooooooo good.
